PICTORIAL: School room ready not ready

DD working with one of her birthday presents: clay and some basic tools.

The school room is the room most period semi’s would allocate as the dining room. When we first moved into the house it functioned as our kitchen, dining room and home ed room all rolled into one. Few home educators can replicate the facilities of school. So, depending on the week, the school room can double up as a boot room, laundry room or junk room. This week, it is relatively clear of projects other than art.

The room remains bare plaster at the moment. The plasterer convinced us to remove the original picture rails in order for him to cover the whole wall. Now the (intact) rails need returning to the wall if I can work out a way of replacing the original iron nails used. We have the paint for the room but no plans to get out the floor sheets and get started.

Oval table is one of those so-so quality heirlooms that many people have. The piece has too many memories to get rid of: DW used to have meals on it when, as a little girl, she visited her grandmother. On the right, the bookcase was sourced from our local neighbourhood email list that puts used items up for sale or given away free. It needs securing to the wall before the first DS tries to climb it.

The wooden floor has been buffed after renting the buffer from the local plant hire shop. Still needs varnishing.
