Familieu turns to CRM to balance homeworking, homeschooling and home organisation

Here at Familieu, we have used a variety of work management and CRM software systems over the years to help manage our lives both professionally and personally.  But use of this kind of software to organise home schooling was new to us.

Every home schooler we come across seems to have their own unique way of educating their children. But whether you follow self-directed learning, consent-based, faith-based, unschooling, even wild schooling, you need a way to organise yourself. Those coasteering trips aren’t going to book themselves.

A CRM can act as an organising tool but also as a record of the work you are doing with your child/ren. Plus, there is the opportunity for them to have access to the CRM and experience IT skills, project planning or digital collaboration. A CRM can also act as a record of the work you are doing with your kids, as perhaps an official report for your local educational authorities or a personal momento.

We’re not going to recommend any particular software because given the many pros and cons of every system, it may not truly matter which one you choose. Instead, it may be more important to use the software consistently so you can get the best out of the experience.

With so many CRMs to choose from, here’s our approach when bench testing a work management tool for the home + work space:

  • A remote/mobile function so you can add tasks on the go
  • Sign up to a week’s free trial and test the same data on at least two systems
  • Check you can upload the files types you typically work with
  • Decide the focus of your CRM: as a database or a work management tool
